I really want to change the legal environment, and that restlessness makes me look for alternatives and ways to solve problems.

Isabella Coutinho jokes that she is “currently” a lawyer. Just as she was once an athlete, she does not know whether she will stay in this field until the end of her career, but while she is in law, she wants to leave her mark.

Born in Minas Gerais, she graduated from Faculdade de Direito Milton Campos and began her professional path in law firms, but soon realized it “clearly was not the kind of place where she saw herself”. “I moved quickly to large multinational companies, and I also realized the environment was not the friendliest for the challenge I was willing to take on, of revolutionizing the legal area”, she says.

Arriving in the startup world

In one of her corporate experiences, Isabella came into contact with the startup environment and found that this could be the opportunity she was looking for to reach her purpose. “The decision to move to a startup was maybe the most important one of my life in terms of professional and personal growth and maturity”, she says.

I moved to Kovi a year ago and I think I have managed to revolutionize the way people see in-house legal, positioning us as a strategic area, part of the business, and no longer as an administrative legal department.

The first contact with Linte

As Partner & Head of Legal, Compliance and Public Policy at Kovi, Isabella needed a tool to organize the area’s day-to-day in terms of managing time, documents and requests.

Talking to leaders at other companies and to her husband, a startup founder, the name Linte came up. According to Isabella, hearing all the platform’s features “sounded too perfect”. “I even said: this cannot be, if it is really this, it will be the solution to my problems. And it was!”

Technology as an ally to lawyers

A great technology enthusiast, Isabella says she hears many professionals worried about possible negative impacts on their day-to-day. “I am already on the other side. I say: people, this is going to help our work a lot. I am completely in favor of innovation and I think we really have to test things”, she argues.

Isabella adds that although technology can take over operational tasks performed by people, automation will never replace legal professionals in situations that involve strategy and creativity, for instance. “The evolution of legal comes so that we have less bureaucracy and can focus on the more strategic activities”, she believes.

And that was an advantage she saw in Linte from the very implementation process.
